A Father's Day Party Any Dad Can Appreciate

By:  Gail Leino

When Mother’s Day was established in the early 1900s, it only made sense that a Father’s Day would soon follow. There is some debate on when and how it was established, but it is generally believed that Father’s Day was also established in the early 1900s. The date recognized as Father’s Day varied from July and June. It was declared an official holiday by U.S. President Richard Nixon in 1972. From this point forward, Father’s Day is recognized as the third Sunday in June.

People typically spend more energy with a Mother’s Day celebration. If you want to arrange a party to pay homage to a special father, a Father’s Day celebration can do just the trick. It usually doesn’t take a lot of fanfare to put a smile on a father’s face. A party with minimal decorations, but plenty of fun activities usually works best for a Father’s Day party. A good guide for determining the decorations to use is to consider the father’s personality, hobbies, and general style. A father with a sense of humor and basic style will probably appreciate a more festive party than one that is more reserved and serious. Use colors that are subtle, but joyous. You may want to consider the father’s hobbies when decorating for a Father’s Day party. For example, a father who has a hobby of working on cars or building things will probably appreciate a party decorated with mini racecars

Barbeque, hamburgers, and hot dogs are popular foods to serve at a laid back Father’s Day party. This type of party works fine for outdoor celebrations. If the party is more formal, entrees, such as steak, lobster, or lamb chops is a good idea. The type of food you serve can also vary according to the weather.
